My Life in Concerts: JPEGMAFIA / Snail Mail / Turnstile @ History Toronto, October 4th, 2022

Venue

History Toronto
1663 Queen St. E.

History is somewhat famously Drake's new club here in Toronto. I was skeptical based off of that alone (I'm not a fan of the man himself, even if he's done a lot for the city). However I was pleasantly surprised! I've been to my fair share of concert venues in and around Toronto. History is a nice balance between the (beloved but) grotty, sketchy, run down, iconic local joints like Lee's Palace, Danforth Music Hall, Sneaky Dee's, et al., the big, glittering dance clubs I used to frequent in my twenties like Guvernment, Tonic, and System Soundbar, and the more modern clubs like Axis (formerly The Mod Club), and CODA.

History is spacious, without seeming cold or impersonal. The mezzanine level offers a mix of open seating and semi-private boxes. The whole club is very open concept, which helps it feel larger and more welcoming. The bar on the night I went was NEVER crowded, which was nice to see. Overall, History is probably the nicest concert venue here in Toronto that I've been to in a LONG time. If you can see a show here, do it.
